I could see doing it. I'd probably circle the magic switch for years and then one day, I'd decide, what the fuck, and flick it.
The thing that would really give me pause would be the thought of all the animals in zoos, all the dogs, cats, birds, ferrets and whatever else people keep slowly dying of thirst. It's a bad way to go.
People ain't ever gonna get together and love one another. Things are going to get leaner and meaner with less resources and more people - 250,000 new mouths to feed every day. 1,000,000 new people in the world every 4 days. isn't that staggering? I don't see a world of peace and tranquility ahead of us.
But is nature really any less flawed? Mother leopards will injure an animal and bring it back to the den for the cubs to practise on. I've read of deer in the far north being driven to run off cliffs due to the torment of the summer swarms of bugs. And carnivores - they kill other animals to survive and when they get too old and slow, they gradually starve to death.
So maybe that switch would be better used to wipe out every living thing on earth...and maybe the next evolution, if it occurred before the end of the universe, would be better.
