Yeah, bum, like if we thought dying was better, why get up in the morning? Or why get high (or drunk in my case)? Dying just doesn't seem like all that much fun, unless the alternative is a long prison sentence or something like that. I know there are situations where I'd prefer to have an "instant out" option available. For instance, inoperable cancer or late-stage AIDS.
The same society that prohibits drugs to ease the pain, also prohibits mercy-killing to ease the pain. A sadistic thread running through in our society? I think it's the conservative Christian element that thinks God wants us to suffer. Ignoring the fact that God put cannabis on the earth, let us discover carbon monoxide, etc., etc.
