Hey bum, I think the reason the human race is so violent and can't get along, is because of the struggle for survival. If we create a world where there is enough food and people are generally content then perhaps we can evolve into a peaceful race. I think the evolution is already happening. The violent buttheads wind up in prison or get killed in war.
I may be wrong in my optimism. Though we do have world peace in most of the developed countries at least, there are disturbing trends in the direction of fascism, like the war on drugs, and the repression in China against democratic activists, and the repression of Tibet and Myanmar. It seems like every time the human race takes two steps forward, it also takes one step back. Here in America, we enjoyed the Clinton years of prosperity and peace only to slide back to the Republicans and their war fantasies.
There are still enormous pressures on people nowadays that lead them in the direction of violence, hate and warfare and I don't see any sign of that abating in the near future. It's going to be a difficult test of the human race to see whether it can survive its own aggressive nature.
