First things first if you are going to be hiding the plant from your parents its prolly not a great idea to be growing. Second its not cheap to grow and get good buds - its going to be about $300 for a decent set-up. Third depending on where you live you may not be able to grow outside. And fourth if you are growing at home and you want lights other than for cloning your paretns will notice the electricity bill. .. oh yeah plants SMELL - good but non the less everyone knows what it is = (
Flourescents will work for vegging (getting your plant a little shorter than the height you want it because it will still grow when you flower it). Cheapest thing ive found has been from lowes - I built my own flourescent fixtures but you can get prewired 2 24" bulb fixtures for about $22 with bulbs - you will need prolly 5 (10 40w bulbs) four horizontal one overhead. Make sure they are not energy saving. If you have the money get a brightwing light off of a hydroplant site just type in brightwing cfl be around $125
- For vegging our plant you want 6400kelvin lights or "daylight" bulbs - dont waist money on the plant lights you can find others for 2-4 bucks just check out the boxes (the ones there will be between 5000k and 6500k)
To Sprout the seeds you can use a few moist paper towels folded in a plate or get jiffy plugs from walmart or any garden center. Keep the moist but not soggy.
When you are vegging it (first 6-9 weeks depending) you want lights at 18hours on 6hours off. And then when you flower the lights are 12/12.
Water the plants every 4 or 5 days (but mostly just get the soil evenly damp and let it almost dry then do it again) Make sure you have good soil dont skimp and put some vermiculite and perilite in it to make sure there is good drainage.
You wont burn the plant with floras unless you put them into the stalk and even then I dont think they get that hot. You will need ALOT of floras to flower or a decent HPS I found mine for $110 shipped. You need 10,000 lumens to flower.
Get some good organic fertilizers for tomatoes vegging and blooming feed them once a week the reccomended dose. Most readily available for you and cheapest.
It takes a few good months to get a good plant
I have one site that you might like and would be good for a very stealth grow inside your rents house ill post it when I find it again. The grow wont be giant or good dense buds but for personal smoke it will be enough and its about $100 to make with lights and not much to run.
