Hi, don't let those guys get you down. They seem to have forgotten that at one point in our lives ALL of us knew NOTHING about growing! Reading the forums is an excellent start. Some basics- don't over water, more light is better, but regular light bulbs don't work for plants, and in my humble opinion, grow organically in soil. Cannabis acts much like tomatoes, so the garden section in your local library can help. You should get an "El Cheapo" microscope (Radio Shack or a big toy department) so you can check the ripeness of you buds. There are several threads with photos on this and other sites to guide you on ripeness. When it's time to harvest, first thank the plant for its gift to you, then remove the branches one by one and hang them clothesline-style in a cool dark place for four or more days (the air's humidity affects drying time). Again, there are whole threads on how to dry and cure your harvest. Vegging is best done under cool white fluorescents. You can have them an inch or so away from the leaves and the leaves won't burn. HPS is apparently best for flowering, but I am just using "Kitchen & Bath" warm white fluorescents and all is coming along very nicely. Removing the tips of the leaves does nothing for the plant or its THC. Topping your plant will make it be shorter and have more tips where buds can form- read up on topping and FIMming. Don't buy cheap potting soil and do buy a PH kit to check your soil and water. I grow organically and have no problems with nutrient burn. I feed my plants by adding a little sugar to the water I use which usually comes from siphoning my aquariums. Leaves are the "food factories" of your plant,so don't remove any of them until you can see they are starting to "go" or are really inconveinent for some reason. You may want to "SCROG" your plants to increase your yields a bit. Look it up on the forums. I think loving your plants and really caring for them does improve their potency. There is an old saying "The best fertilizer is the footsteps of the gardener." Good luck in your grow!
