Fair enough Lively, That being the case this is what I'd do.
Forget Brisbane all together...No1 Redneck friggen wonderland in australia. Dope? they'll jail ya for even an oz if you don't have good legal representaion. Scoring dope there is like the old dog warning sign on the side gate of houses, "Enter at own risk"
Yet 40 minutes down the coast, they can stop you in the streets(Nimbin) and offer you ounces... you figure. They catch you there with, and it's like getting a car speeding ticket. It's not legal, but the heat turn an eye to it easily, especially if you're a tourist. I've blown bazookas next em that unitentionally filled their faces with smoke at the Gras and they looked and laughed at what they must've thought was Buddah reincarnated.lol
So I'd definately go for a few days to NImbin if not a week. But you need to do this so as you enjoy yourself properly:
- Make sure you hire a car at Coolongatta airport when you arrive. This is imperative and all you need is nice litte 4cyl.
- Make sure you book your stay with the Klassic Lodge whichis 4km outside of Nimbin on the same road you use to drive into it. Itis the ONLY decent and clean place with relatively new facilities in the area. It is situated on 20 acres of prime SubTropical forest but it has about 2-3 acres in the fornt of the place that area fully cleared with good gravel road leading to its front door step. It have much wildlife on the property and I'm sure you'll like the resident peacocks that are there. Out the front on the cleared land in between the main building and the road, you have full Gas BBQ facilities with adjoining tables seats and pergola. BBQ is free to use for all guests. They serve a good hearty ozzy organic breakfast for a small cost. Eggs and bacon with sausages and fresh tomatoe with your choice of beverages... and more if you wish.
Last time I stayed was during the year before last's mardiGras and they charged me $80 per night + 8 or 10 bucks for brakfast. Dinners I did myself on their Large BBQ and I'd end up feeding everyone in place with all the stuff I'd buy fresh from supermarkets in Lismore - a mere 20-30 minutes away by car. They know the situatoin in Nimbin and do not mind you have peaceful joynts in the place and on their lawns around the BBQ facilities. So long as you are not rowdy, they're cool.
- Nimbin is good from lunch time on. It closes pretty early, about 8pm. But after that you have all of the places like nightclubs, pubs, theatres and resturants open all night in Lismore and ByronBay... and let me tell you ByronBay rocks at night. The many international celebrities live and regularly visit there - the 2 members of ZZTop live there permanently and don't be suprised if you bump into them in a pub or night club casue they're out socialising all the time. I've had drinks with them myself on numerous occasions when I've been up there, top blokes both of them...but they don't smoke strangly enough.
If your'e into fishing at all, there are many charter vessels operating from everywhere along that coastline. TweedHeads (I love that place), ByronBay and Ballina(10minutes south of Byron by car) all have rgeat charter operators working them and they are very fairly priced. They'll take you out into the ocean there and you'll blow your mind with what you'll catch. Fillet as much as want and bring it back for BBQ'ing at the Lodge...or if you wish, they'll cook it up for in the lodge any way you wish ,but leave them a big slab of something nice for it out of your catch. A 10kilo slab of SpanishMackeral or spankledEmporor usually does the trick, and then you'll be mates with them for life.
Theree are so many tings to do up there if you're organised with only a few bucks in your pocket that it ain't funny. In the end, if you do it right, even 2weeks won't be enough. But 1 week is better than none.
Not forgetting that from Nimbin you can cruise into Brisbane city in less than an hour by car... if you must.
The other week I'd spend in 1 of either 2 cities depending on my likes.
- Sydney - if you enjoy comsopolitan type living and nightclubs
- Melbourne if you enjoy top class food and top class resturants... with very good pubs and nightclubs also.
Sydneys warmer in climate, but Melbourne is MUCH easier to get around in. Sydney is a travellers nightmare if they decide to drive themselves. I have friend and relatives that live there and were born there, and after 20 to 50 years many of them still do not know how to get from 1 suburb to the other unless they have a map... and that is no shit and it's VERY common. No symmetry to their cities outlay. Melb is very symmetrical and highly organised in her cities layout of roads. You'd have to be an idiot to get lost in Melb... or heavily stoned.
You're choice, yo udecide, but I recommend staying away from Brisbane and NOT talking to anyone about dope if you go there. Very dangerous in that neck of the woods. They're wankers basically, as is anyone who frowns upon dope.
