that would be the empress hotel on the victoria's beautiful harbourfront...it was one of the historic flagship hotels of the canadian pacific (railway) hotel chain, along with even grander hotels in a dozen canadians cities and a string of exotic locations around the world (including miami)...the profitable CP hotel chain was recently bought by a royal prince from the house of saud and renamed: fairmont hotels...how about that? canada's history up for sale!

you should accompany your DD to victoria...it's a great place to be a tourist because everything you want to do is within walking distance, and you can see/do everything worthwhile in 2 or 3 days...here's a few tips
- spend a morning at the royal bc museum...my favourite exhibit is the recreation of an early victoria streetscape that you can walk in/through...you might be interested in the preserved house on the museum lawn that belonged to one of victoria's first doctors...i had the house to myself and enjoyed searching through EVERYTHING as if the residents had merely stepped out for a walk
- there are some nice hemp/head shops in victoria right next to eachother within walking distance of the empress hotel: * Sacred Herb 106-561 Johnson St http://www.sacredherb.com/ * Off The Cuff 587 Johnson Street
- take a whale watching tour...spring is the best time for viewing...tours leave from the marina in front of the empress http://www.princeofwhales.com/
- ask the empress concierge for a map to see famous fan tan alley in chinatown and eat at a nice restaurant nearby...hire a horse drawn carriage to get there and walk home: http://www.thingsasian.com/stories-photos/1682
- visit madame toussaud's house of wax weirdness next to the undersea aquarium on the waterfront near the empress (but skip the aquarium)
- you might also enjoy visiting craigdarroch castle: it's an architectural testament to the power of love and mental instability...right up your alley! http://www.craigdarrochcastle.com/
as you wander further away from the empress into downtown, you will see a lot of spotty looking sketchy types on the streets...don't worry: except for body odour, they are completely harmless but do not give them cash to go into the pub and buy pot for you unless you want to get rid of them permanently
