"Hi Elijah. ..I could not resist commenting on :
"....I think the important thing to realize is that God does not order people to kill other innocent people or babies....except in extenuating circumstances, like that of Abraham, where it was only a test, and all the factors show that Abraham knew that Isaac would not become or stay dead."

...pardon me,,,but that's gonna need some explaining.
"...except in extenuating circumstances, like that of Abraham, where it was only a test, and all the factors show that Abraham knew that Isaac would not become or stay dea d."
".. the factors show that Abraham knew that Isaac would not become or stay dead." . ..if "the factors",showed Abraham that; " Isaac would not become or stay dead.", ,then Abraham was cheating on the "test"/?/ and/or God allowed Abraham to cheat/?/ . ..in other words, if Abraham knew the outcome of this "test", then it was not a legitimate test?/ . ..do I have a point?,,or do I lack understanding of your statement? ...?\ ...? ˆ√ ˆ¥¨√ƒ…ˆ¨˜¨≈ª¶ˆ∫…ˆ¨µ…ˆ≈ t…"
The test was not of Abraham's knowledge, but of his faith in what God revealed to him directly. Like Adam and Eve....and many other examples throughout the Bible, it's mainly about faith. Adam and Eve didn't have faith in what God revealed to them directly....thus, they failed the test.....did they have the same kind of knowledge as Abraham? Yes! They knew the power of God first hand....and had no reason to doubt what he told them. They failed because they didn't have faith and trust in God, even after getting to know his character and works first hand. Abraham did not cheat, he had only the same tools as Adam and Eve....he passed, not because it was a test of his knowledge of the character of God and his works, but because it was a test of his faith, and he did have faith and trust in God, knowing his character and works first hand. Additionally, the case of Abraham and Isaac was quite different than the slaughter of babies or innocent people, because this case required Isaac's consent and even his active participation in convincing his father to follow through....as explained in detail in the book of Jasher. Abraham was a 134 year old man....Issac was a young, strong man in his 30s.
The main point I am trying to get at, however, is that Abraham did not cheat, neither could he cheat, because it was a test of his faith in the knowledge and truth revealed by God, not a test of his knowledge of that revelation itself. Adam and Eve knew full well what God said and who he was.....they acted faithlessly anyway....Abraham also knew this full well......but he acted with faith.
It's like a math test where you are allowed to keep the formulas you need handy......even though everyone is given the knowledge of how to solve the problem, not everyone does it right still....the test is not to see whether or not you know the formula....the test is to see if you can use the formula to solve problems.
I hope that answers your questions.
Peace.
