Thanks for the comments imnother....I liked the article too. Mainly, what I found interesting about it was how it was talking about the general societal and governmental trend (at least in the USA, probably worldwide because of the espousal of US views through the UN as well) towards seeing everything and planning and implementing everything in a way where behaviorism is considered the truth of why humanity acts as it does.
I think that, to a large degree, the government is right when it comes to society at large....."the masses" tend to react mindlessly in many ways. However, the mind of the individual cannot be overlooked, and I think that is part of what is causing lots of problems in society....the governmental relegation of all of us to the zoo...considering not only the masses, but everybody to be dealt with like animals. True, there probably should be behaviorist type regulations in some sorts of ways....for instance, when it comes to sex, the masses tend to act like animals....thus, it is prudent to regulate society to a certain degree when it comes to public manifestation(and a little private in extreme cases)of sexuality. Otherwise, you will end up with a rampant spread of STDs, and many unwanted children. However, when it comes to other things, such as personal choice of medications, and personal use of plants, there is no place for government regulation of such. Plants do not destroy societies....unless you're talking about weeds killing crops, or plants otherwise being destroyed themselves. Also, things like subversive use of media to brainwash and condition people....that is not OK.
I agree that there are some good meds...I don't think any good meds are non-plant based though. I have encountered many negative things about synthetic and also non-whole food/plant based medicine. It does not work with your body in a balanced way, and often will cause other serious problems though it will help the condition it is prescribed for. Plant based medicines, however, naturally balance with your body's systems, and do not generally have as serious of side effects. Additionally, the active ingredients in medicinal plants fit into the receptors of your brain much more smoothly than synthetics or extracts. They also tend to cause much less dependency.
Additionally, I think, in the article, when they were bad mouthing Psychiatry, it was mainly about the Behaviorist approach they take, negating the mind.....I don't remember it speaking much about how meds play into all this. Good point though. Not all medicines are bad for all people.
P.S.
