Good morning!
First when using a Plant for its certain Alkaloid(s) isomers.. what ever
it is always a good idea for it to be completely dry,
if not you will end up with other stuff lol we will just say trash that has no positive affects and would just take up "room" in what you are using to extract what you are after at least for our purposes.. anyway
Now from reading your post I take it you are planing to put the actual leaves and flowers in your butter.. maybe i took the way you said it wrong .. the typed word has no expression of the emotions behind the words LOL so it is easily mistaken,
First unless you like the taste and the texture which to each his own you do not have to have the actual material in your butter and if so i am thinking 1lb of herb make 1lb of butter fairly.. lumpy LOL kind of like those people that like a little coffee with their cup of sugar LOL
although extracting your THC from 1lb material to 1lb butter would be fine although save the remains after straining i am sure they would be good for another go around
and if it is to potent you can always add butter to it,
if you would like the information to extract THC to your butter Below i will paste my method from a earilier post
if you already know this info then disregard the rest of this messege ;)
Just use a pan large enough to hold the water, that is holding the..Pot.. and a bit of room on top for your butter i am sure this goes without saying LOL

It is quite Simple ..
Get a Pot (medium sauce pan, a quart or 2)
3/4 full water bring to boil
put in the happy grass.. minus seeds.. no seeds in mary butter.. concentrating some on the stuff in the seeds will get in your butter and can make you a little upset on the tummy ;)
throw 1/2 cup of regular ole butter, Real butter, works better in my opinion
allow to boil.. 30 minutes strain
sit the strained water ..with the melted butter floating in the fridge.. till butter is hard
pull the butter save in container and use it at your will ;)
most of the nasty taste from the weed will stay right in the water so chunk it..
THC does not like water very well and with the chioce of nice oily butter the THC will go there
imagine a nice hot blueberry muffin.. with a big glob of melted fun butter ;)

Now you say this is your first go at canna butter just so you know even extracting the good stuff the butter changes color .. and does affect the flavor, so actually the more concentrated you make your butter the better you can always add regular butter to it, which would also help out weigh the taste, i preffer the Butter used with some thing sweet.. jelly .. plain toast and cannabutter .. at least to me .. is a bit blah LOL
