As far as spending money it matters more who controls the Congress than who controls the White House. The President proposes, the Congress disposes...
If the same party holds both the presidency and a majority in Congress, then you can count only upon their doing whatever it takes to stay in power and on the public dole. Right now, it appears the Democrats are in very good shape. They already have majorities in both houses of Congress, and there's no reason to believe that their majorities will decrease.
At the moment, the only way to slow down the inexorable decline of America is to hope that there is sufficient conservatism in the U.S. Senate (read: 40+ Senators who are willing to vote no, just for the hell of it) to stall action on major spending initiatives.
Like many of you, I have no hope that the cream is rising to the top in US politics. Despite all their grandstanding, I have almost no hope that this country will avoid severe economic times, not seen here since the Great Depression. I hope I'm wrong.
If there's anything we can agree on right now, it ought to be that things in this country are really fucked up. There must be a clear path out of this mess but those in power are too invested in their own self-interests to find it.
Maybe it's time to get back to basics.
Peace, Sage
