B - great question!
This is an area where there is unequivocal agreement between science and religion - the world is going to end.
In the context of broader history, an area of study that I have just a smattering of understanding, I believe we are just fine. Some thoughts:
- More people, as a percentage, live in somewhat free, democratic societies than ever before.
- Modern medicine has unbelievably altered the quality and length of life.
- Economies cycle, always have, always will.
- These "conflicts" are nothing compared to the carnage of WW1 or WW2 - 80,000,000 folks died during those wars.
- Climate change? The climate is always going to change. If, and a dubious assumption at best, carbon is causing global warming, I have full trust, well founded, that technology will fix the solution. Remember the gasoline engine is essentially 1.0 as far propulsion systems go.
The larger concern, at least for me, is the erosion of the Western Civilization.
When she dies, welcome to the modern Dark Ages.
