Apparently, some people pay the bill just to make the calls stop, which may be why the calls continue. The scam has apparently been going on for 2-3 years
That's exactly what I think.
There are some people that keep horrible track of their finances and when they get a call like that they assume it's a bill they forgot to pay.
Also I think it's been going on for much longer than 2-3 years. Many years ago I saw a documentary that exposed a telemarketing scam called "where's the check" These firms can actually buy list of people with alzheimers or other mental problems and call them up and convince them they owe a check for a delinquent account when in fact they don't owe them a thing.
I like to think there's a special place in hell for them.
It may take a call from an attorney to scare them off. Certain states would allow you to take them to court for each offense.
