I rub my bud across a strainer (99 cent at a dollar store; you'll know it when you see it) while holding it over a glass plate. You get a distinct difference in greenery on the plate. Some very light green stuff (kief) and the regular rest of the bud. Use a playing card/business card to carefully pull the kief away from the rest and load that first.
Holy Shit is all I can say.
This depends on your liesure on leaving paraphanalia around. Instead of a pipe and bud floating around you have a strainer/plate/bud/card all with residue on it. But if you let the cops breach your threshold, your a tool in the first place.
