Bong/Pipe Smoking?

I smoke joints all the time, been high quite a bit. I've just never used a bong or a pipe to smoke it. The only reason I am looking towards it now is because my boyfriend deals, and is always smokin from a pipe or a bong, rarely doobies. i've been around bongs and ive seen people take hits I am just confused and dont wanna look lke a douche having to ask questions.. i dont relaly understand about carb thing... and do any of you follow the "snap" rule.. from what ive seen it doesnt seem like many people do... and as for pipes.. do you just light it once or do you have to continue to light it? haha i know this probably doesnt even make sense but anything will help :) Thankssssss guys
