there are a lot of vaporizers selling for under $100, so cost is not the issue it once was. Unless you are intent on purchasing the brand-name "Volcano". I guess if you have the money to burn, why not? I'm opting for a copycat production with a ceramic heating element.
I plan to do some experiments with a vaporizer and report back. In theory, a vaporizer should be just as good as a bong, maybe better in that a good vaporizer should not allow vapor to escape, whereas with a bong, the smoke is drifting away into the air whenever you're not inhaling. Also any flame probably destroys some of the THC.
The draw for me is I have a high succeptibility to upper respiratory infections, which might be lessened with a vaporizer as opposed to a bong. Also I would welcome decreased smell so as to reduce the chance of others detecting the tell-tale aroma. Then there's the added benefit of not needing a lighter, lighter fluid, rolling papers...only an A/C outlet.
