Miss Strange, I was checking out another site and in an article about a fellow Oregonian, Mr. Beers, they quoted the Oregon law on possession of less than an ounce. I don't really feel like going back and retyping the whole thing, so I'll cut to the chase. The law has in it this phrase "the plant Cannabis family Moraceae". Now the problem with that is that taxonomists (scientists who classify living things)had a big argument about just what family pot is in. The old school taxonomists said Moraceae; the new school said it deserved its own family. The new schoolers won--the USDA (on its ars-grin and the itis sites)now lists pot as in the family Cannabaceae. It now is, starting with the Class-- Class- Magnoliopsida, Order - Urticales, Family - Cannabaceae, Genus - Cannabis, Species - Sativa/indica/ruderalis. Since law is VERY picky about wording of laws (Mr. Beers got off because the law failed to mention possession of seeds as illegal), it seems to me that the law is invaild because there is NO plant called Cannabis in the family of Moraceae. Missy, go hassle the Oregon NORML about this for me. I think it would go over better from an Oregonian, than an "outsider". Have fun, dear.
