Here is what I would first do:
1. decide a location
2. make notes of the temp ranges and humidity of the area(i bought a unit that records both hi/low of temp/RH daily @ HDepot for <$20)
3. Space available
4. Growing medium, soil or hydro
5. How much money do you have to spend
6. What items do I currently have, and how to use them in my system.
7. lighting will be determined by space.
8. ventilation outlets available in my area
9. Pros and cons of home improvement projects gone wrong.
George, please add as maybe I may have missed a few key planning steps.
