The Canada-wide Establishment of Tent-cities

-

flailing and scrambling, tripping and screaming. everyone is well aware that something is fundamentally and horribly fucked.

My ire gets raised by the simplicity that most miss, so I remember we can only be reflections of our experience and all the people engaged in corrupt acts just do not know better. I do not want to waste your time with a journal account of my psyche, so I'll get to the point...

JUNE 16TH, 2008- begins a five day trial to determine, constitutionally, if the Corporation of the City of Victoria's anti-camping bylaws are ok. At the end of the five days the judge may or may not reserve their ruling. If it is ruled that the bylaw is not constitutional it will make way for sanctioned tent-cities in every municipality in Canada. If it is ruled constitutional the court officially reveals itself to be a terrorist. Either way there will be action.

JUNE 21ST, 2008- ruling or not, good ruling or not, I will be asserting my right to act conscientiously in my ability to live and sleep by constructing a 'temporary abode' in a place open enough to birth a tent-city, inviting myself to be murdered by the 'Crown' if they disagree. Knowing better, one cannot be mature AND eat in jail.

The 'Crown' will continue with the demonic spin-doctoring thing, maybe trying to delay the trial yet again... as far as I can see, five days after whenever this trial happens I will stand against the 'Crown' in the name of God and life and truth and it would be best if all would stand with me.

Patience be with us all. It begins with a love of truth... as long as a person holds any notion of pride being virtuous they cannot know themself. Better start thinking grand because life is. Patience be with your ego.

I don't understand... from my vantage point, you ppl in Canada have it great...mj is almost legal...free health care... count your blessings. I really think our neighbor to the North is a moral teacher for the rest of the continent.

we have a big problem with homelessness in the city of vancouver (not far from victoria, but due to an error in geographical judgement, vancouver is not located on vancouver island)...vancouver is the most expensive city for real estate in canada, and everything else seems more expensive here too (except pot) so we have a lot more people living on the margins...despite being a wealthy city that consistently ranks in the top 3 cities of the world, vancouver is home to the poorest neighbourhood in canada on it's downtown eastside

a little over a decade ago, two things happened that caused an explosion in homelessness...vancouver thoughtlessly closed down a very large mental institution, and the province of alberta offered everyone on it's welfare roles a free one-way bus ticket out of the province...a lot of poor albertans chose vancouver because it offered relatively large welfare cheques and a temperate year round climate...the one way bus ticket thing isn't a joke - that is how alberta dealt with it's welfare problem back in 1994...rich neighbours are a mixed blessing

vancouver is hosting the 2010 olympics and like china, it is trying to spruce up it's image, but instead of spray painting dead grass to make it look green, vancouver is sweeping homeless people off the streets

the anti-poverty committee in vancouver has achieved near terrorist status with it's tent cities, condemned building squats, disruption of public events, vandalism, etc...they are desperate and they are organized:
http://apc.resist.ca/

as far as morality goes, we've been in a bit of a slump...besides our current hunt and destroy military occupation in afghanistan, we're still neglecting our native populations, neglecting our environment, neglecting our health care system, and selling our country off to the highest bidder

ever hear of marc emery? he's facing extradition to the united states for a minimum 10 year prison sentence for selling cannabis seeds...in canada, that crime is worth about 1 day in jail, but the canadian government refuses to protect emery, and even actively participated in setting him up for extradition, and refused to assist him plea bargain for a five year prison sentence in canada (in exchange for immunity for his two co-conspirators)

like the usa, canada does some things well, but the good things do not erase the bad things...no country is perfect, but canada has been backsliding lately

I need to review the Marc Emery case, but last I heard, he was let off. Basically Canada dropped the case, or so I thought, but maybe I'm mistaken?

I know the Conservatives are in power in Canada now, too bad, and also they are anti-mj.

Alberta seems clever but if I were government in Vancouver I'd change the handling of the homeless population.

For homelessness, I think the solution is sterilization, followed by subsidized housing in a rural area far from the city. The city isn't a good place for homeless, because they will run into constant conflict with the citizens. In Atlanta, there have been cases of suburban kids mugging the homeless just because they know they're vulnerable and unlikely to get much help. Homeless are frequent crime victims and when they disappear, nobody is the wiser.

It seems like most liberal cities are plagued by the homeless. San Francisco comes to mind. I've heard however that the homeless can help you score if you're new in town, though typically they don't know the best dealers. San Francisco is home to aggressive and obnoxious pan-handlers, some of whom have pockets stuffed with quarters, easily enough to get a week's worth of food... I've been tempted to beat a homeless bum myself, because he had more money on him than I did and was asking me for change. I have more respect for a robber, who at least has chutzpah, then a bum that wants something for nothing and doesn't have the guts to take it.

In order for a liberal city to be worth living in at all, the homeless need to be relocated... it's not nice to go out for a walk and encounter pan-handling bums every day. The more conservative cities harass the homeless, so what happens is that liberals wind up bearing the brunt of the homeless problem.

that's ridiculous. live and let live. how could you kick someone out of their
town
where they live 'cause they ask you for change too much? these people are
our
brothers and sisters-- and to condemn them and throw them out of your city
because they bother you, is a sad state to be in.

the problem is in vancouver is that there is nowhere to live outside and
people
should have the right to live for free outdoors on public property.

these cities are EVERYONE's cities, not just those who don't want to be
bothered
by homeless people in tents. or even asking for change.
