Right on, the best idea is to learn a valuable trade, where your knowledge makes you desirable. But, then again as a "19 year old female" you might find you can just make money as a waitress. At a decent restaurant they can earn 10 - 20% in tips. Not bad to get $5 - $10 just for serving a few plates...and smiling once in a while. (I don't care for waiters or waitresses that act like robots and never smile at all.)
I worked a bunch of sh!t jobs in my teens and early twenties... making between $3 and $7.50 an hour, but this was back some years ago. The bosses at that level tend to treat their employees like dogcrap just b/c they can. The little petty tyrants would look down their nose at me and scold me for some little thing, like I didn't sort the cans on a shelf just the way they thought they should be sorted. Or when I laid out a deck of business cards, the deck wasn't aligned just at the spot on the counter where Bossman would have put it if he had been me.
In my last sh!t job I got laid off, for one reason, because they had to hire a black man. The department was too white, and I was selected b/c I had the least seniority and my buddy knew more computer tech than I did, too.
So I took my weekly unemployment benefits (nice to get laid off rather than fired) and went back to school, learned advanced computer skills and a couple years later started out at $13.50 an hour... worked my way up and a decade later I'm taking down $30 an hour...
So the moral of the story is turn yourself into a valuable commodity so that a.) you make serious dough, and b.) the boss-man does not treat u like sh!t b/c he freaking needs you, badly.
Of course you will have to behave yourself and study hard but that's par for the course. If you can't do this be honest with yourself and just do something that makes you happy.
