how much of a head start?

yummie Registered on Jan-29-2008 More User Info Message #18797 posted by yummie (Info) February 13, 2008 11:04:35 ET i usualy start my plants indoor 3 weeks before i put them outside because i was told that it works best by a great grower. how long do you personaly wait? if i start earlier, will they die or will they just be bigger or what? im just curious...

(Info) February 13, 2008 12:22:44 ET In Reply to: how much of a head start? posted by yummie (Info) February 13, 2008 11:04:35 ET you can start them indoors earlier but you'll need a light to keep them in veg. a window sill is not enough... when moving indoor plants out under the sun they'll need to be gradually introduced to direct sunlight by starting them in a lightly shaded area then moving them into more and more sunlight over a week or so to keep them from getting sunburned.

george j warner Registered on Sep-02-2006 More User Info Message #18806 posted by george j warner (Info) March 24, 2008 19:02:37 ET In Reply to: Re: how much of a head start? posted by yummie (Info) February 18, 2008 08:04:38 ET when there small give them just enough light to live, no point blasting them with a hps .the reason the grow them inside is that the outdoor environment is harsh ... the light at veg (spring) will be about the same as the florecents close up, they will be stronger plants for it (USE A FAN TO STRENGTHEN THE STEMS)... when they reach past about 3 weeks give them the window sill (still with a fan on them )for a couple of days to get used to the light then put them outside ...they should be pritty happy then and that means no stress ..... as in they will grow faster and turn out to be bigger healthier plants ...resulting in a larger harvest green houses are also perfect for hardening off plants...but they MUST have a fan or a breeze on the for the stems
