Girl in need! Lighting Question! Please ASAP!

Do Fluoresents lose lumens/ useable light light a Halide and Sodium? I have an old fixture in the garage with two 4' fluro's should they be replaced or will this work ok for cuttings? We put some freshly rooted clones under a 400 watt light, it seemed to be too much for the little girls, raised it higher and it helped a little but figure a fluro may work better for the next couple weeks. Does that sound ok?

Ive used it before on seedlings even, but with these clones they seem to dislike heat from this 400. They were previously living under a fluro though... this is a TW strain.

I use 4 ,4 ft 40 watt full service bulbs with 48 in full service ballast. I have seen very good output from just florsents. Remember its the log of the distance to the bulb. By the way we help Boys also , we are all green growers. Do not panic, children often use the Girl thing to get a faster responce, that way the boys think they will get a little.
