I have an old 150WHPS lamp ... the ballast when bad and I replaced it .... the trouble it the new ballast, cap and ingitor won't all fit in the old container .... tried to find something that would work at the DIY store, but nothing.

I think I rig it where I can house the ballast and leave the cap and ignitor out.

What I would like to know is if I can leave the cap. and ingitor outside the case without it being a fire hazzard?

If anyone out there in MH land understand these things please enlighten me! ;)

Thank you for your time.

i had the same problem when i replaced a ballast ... you need to get some
ballast conectors from a hydroponics shop a male and female for 1 conection
so you need 2 females and 2 males ,they dont cost much ... get a soldering
iron and link them up its not hard lol just make sure when you open up the
case that all the energy has gone ...coz with ballasts ,there are big capicitors
inside that hold electricity ... so make sure it hasnt been pluged in for a while
!!!!!

dont have live wires out in the open coz yes a major fire hazzard .... a hps/
mh bulb needs 1300volts just to ignite, so the reflecter side is very killing
dangerous !!!!! dont try it easpecially when you grow there is moisture
in the air .... water and electricity doesnt mix well !

peace

Well one of the grower on another board told me to use an old PC power supply box .... I happen to have one so I gutted it and put the lamp parts in it. It has plenty of holes for air and the lamps works okay.

All I have to do now is solder my connections figure out how to stop the humming noise .... stops when I press on the top, and then mount it. It will assist my 430 hps lamp.

I have it in a 3x5x8 closet .... that wouldn't be too much light would it? Total 580 watts.

All together my garden run on a little less than 1000 watts ... that's not too much power is it?

Thanks.

Yeah ... I figure the ladies would like the extra light, but will my pocketbook? And will the yield be worth it?

Still trying to determine that.

Thanks
