George, you've been so helpful in the past so I thought you'd be able to answer me one more. I went to 12/12 almost 2 weeks ago. Finally, my plant is sprouting flowers all over. Do I start counting my flowering time from the day I went to 12/12 or from the time the flowers started to appear? I want to get my harvest time just right and the 2 week differential between 12/12 and the appearance of flowers leaves too much margin for error. Thanks in advance.

your meant to do it from time you switch the light .. but , dont harvest on a deadline ie if its a 8 weeker , dont harvest on 8weeks just coz it says so ..

harvest when the pistils are 75% brown . then you get the maxium ammount of resin and yeild otherwise you might harvest to soon or too late.

hope this helps : )

forgot to say ..ive had strains like "great white shark" (8 weeker 8w)that has been ready under a 1000watter in 6 weeks.. or some that take longer like blueberry that i pushed to 9.5 (8.5w).. it all depends on the plant and the environment .. if the growing conditions are perfect it will be faster than a poorer environment

Thanks George. I'll definitely try to harvest by judging the % of pistils that have changed color but it helps to have a general idea when it "should" be ready. My growing conditions are good but not perfect. I'm using a 400 watt HPS that I augmented with some regular old household lamps. She's about 5 1/2 feet tall now after 2 1/2 weeks of flowering. Doing well... I'm afraid I'm gonna run out of room before I'm done though. I keep raising my light and I've only got about 1 foot left to raise it. Any suggestions?

do you know what strain it is?

if you want you can bend it over and stake it ,you can pinch and bend it , tie the top bud with a piece of string then bend the plant over in a arc then tie the string to a brick or the ground somehow...

ive dont pinch and bend before and it works fine .. but dont do it until its reached the top most point then at least it will get as big as it will ....

Thanks again George for your expertise. I've got a much bigger problem now though... the plant is a hermie. Need some advice about whether to salvage it or not. Here's the link to a thread I started on the basic growing board.

http://boards.marihemp.com/boards/msg8x84392.shtml

And here's my post so you'll have all the info...

I'm in my second grow. I only had 3 bubblegum seeds left. Of those, one failed to propagate and one died shortly after breaking the surface. The third has grown and thrived. Its now about 3 weeks into flowering and close to 6 feet tall. I've just discovered its a hermie, probably stress related as early in my grow the temps were quite high (over 100 F for several days).

I've read that you should definitely kill hermies as they contain seeds, less THC and bad genetics. But this is my only plant (after 10 weeks of growing) and it's unlikely I'll be able to start another grow until March because of travel plans early next year. I've also read that you can snip off or pinch off the balls and salvage the plant.

So my question is this... am I going to be able to salvage some decent mid-grade type weed with some seeds and a little less potency by removing most of the male pods? There are literally hundreds of mall flowers so I can't eliminate them all, but if I reduce the amount of male flowers (and thus reducing the pollen) will I still get a decent amount of resin production from the female flowers?

I don't want to kill the plant and leave myself completely dry for another 8 months but I don't want to waste my time with a hopeless cause if the end result will be some shitty mexican brick weed. Anyone with experience salvaging a hermie and the results?
