If I could, I'd like to get some realistic input from some seasoned growers.

I live in a two bedroom apartment in North Texas. Plenty of closets but with a small child and less than supportive wife (in regards to marijuana smoking and growing), growing inside is not an option.

However, I do have an outside utility closet that could be used for a washer and dryer, but right now just has boxes of stuff left unpacked. There's one light fixture above. It does have a vent for a dryer connection, so I figure I could fashion some sort of ventilation to vent out smell, although it would be risky as I live on the corner of our building. The room itself measures approx 10ft high, 5 ft across, and probably 4 or 5ft deep.

Considering getting optimal nutes, using compact flourescents, using scroging (sp?) to get a bushier plant, could this space be used for growing and produce a plant with a fair amount of quality? I'm not looking to start an herb farm, 1 or 2(max) plants purely for personal comfort.

Any help would be appreciated.

you really don't want to waste your time and space with compact flouro's for your main grow area. they're good for rooting clones and maybe a good part of the veg cycle (if ya have to) but for decent buds i urge you to go with hid's...a 400 or 600 watt system (i like to use the 85-100W/sq ft minimum formula). better yet, 2 400w hid's...an mh and an hps and rotate either the lights or the plants (or a full spectrum bulb like 'growmasters')! i use 400's for veg and use 1 to cover a 2' x 3' area, or 6-8 plants then switch over to 1KW for flowering and end up with large and dense buds every time. the higher yield more than makes up for the extra electricity costs (no worries about the bill with such a small addition other than maybe having to pay for it...lol) and it just makes for a better looking product.
you can chose from many different strains that won't stink up the place...like c99 or grapefruit and most sativa's. but with proper venting and an area to vent into you can grow any strain you want.

If smell is an issue, carbon filtering is a MUST! Venting smell to the outside could mean trouble if your neighbors people wonder why they smell skunks. If you do grow, never brush up against your plants because it releases that smell. Try to never touch them.
