Hi,
I used to visit the boards a lot but under another name which I can't remember the password for and don't have the email account any more so have had to re-register.

Anyway, I have a few plants growing - White widow - and they are just over a week into grow under a small HPS. Now, I've noticed that the leaves are starting to curl on them! :(

I have checked for insects etc and found none. I have watered them daily but not over-done it.

I have grown before with no problems, but never white widow.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? I tested the temp with the back of my hand at the plant level and whilst it was warm, it certainly wasn't "hot". I've just moved the light up a bit to see if that helps but any other suggestions are much appreciated!

Cheers

Hi,
Yes, it's just the same soil as I've always used I believe - there's certainly nothing special about it (added nutrients etc) anyway. The only difference this time is that I have used vermiculite instead of perlite simply because that is all was in stock, but surely that shouldn't make a difference?

Too HOT! When the leaf edges curl up like that its because the temp is too high. A plant cant get up and run away, so in defense, they will curl the leaves upward in order to limit the amount of leaf surface exposed. They also can curl up with very low humidity, again, to limit the amount of surface exposure. Usually too hot temps will also create a low humitity situation, so they kinda go hand in hand. The damaged leaves will likely dry and die within a week or so.

Hi,
Thank-you very much for the help! Hopefully my movement of the light will have stopped any further damage. They're in blackout at the moment but I'll check them again tomorrow and make sure they're not getting too warm!

Cheers again! :)
