Drug Testing and Background Checks

I had worked for the company for about a week before the results came in. Of course I received a call from my manager who explained that I could not work for them because of this. My question is if something like this can show up on a background check. I found out that if you are terminated from a job for failing a drug test, it can show up. Can pre-employment screenings show up on a background check also or is it strictly screenings that are administered after you have already been hired? I am doing a background check on myself just to see, but it takes up to 2 weeks to get the report. Thanks in advance.
