I am male, in my thirties and weigh about 170lbs.

I am an inexperienced marijuana user. I have smoked only 4-5 times. The last time I smoked, I was in Jamaica. I did get stoned and the experience was kinda OK. I did not like loss of control that I felt while being couch-locked but I wasn't that scared either.

The other day I tried a quarter of a hash-cookie. Here is my experience:

I had eaten 1/8th of the cookie the day before and nothing had happened that time. So, this day I ate 1/4th of a cookie.

After 2 hours: Nothing happened for about 2 hours. I was about to give up when suddenly I started feeling dizzy. It felt like my skull had become hollow like an empty tin container. Sounds coming from the TV would ring and resonate inside my head. I also started to get mild head-spinning feelings.

After 2:30 hours: I continued to feel dizzy and so I laid down. My heart stated beating really fast and my body became very warm. I continued watching TV and it felt like for every scene I watched on the TV , I could remember another scene similar to that scene from somewhere else.

After 3 hours: The feelings kept deteriorating. I had started feeling more helpless. My arms felt like they were made of water. And, from time to time my legs or arms would twitch. This was really scary. I should also mention I felt different based depending on what I actually thought. If I started thinking that the cookie was bad, I started panicking. I started thinking I was going to die and should call the hospital. Surprisingly, if I told myself that this was just a temporary effect, I felt better.

After 4 hours: In the end, I just lay in bed praying for the whole thing to be over soon. I also ate a big meal of eggs, toast and fried potatoes. This really helped. Then I somehow went to sleep and felt much refreshed after waking up after 8 hours.

The bottom line is I did not find the expereince very pleasant. It was downright scary. I dont think I would be eating the hash cookies again.

So, my question is - was my trip / experience normal?
People seem to enjoy this so much but I did not enjoy it at all.

I have taken opiods a few times and have experienced care-free happiness and euphoria from taking them. I can't seem to get the same feelings from using pot.

eating cannabis is problematic because you can't adjust your dose according to how you feel (as you can with smoking)...whatever dose you eat is what you're stuck with for the next few hours...depending on how the cookies were made, its possible that there was a higher concentration of hash in the part of the cookie you ate the second day

cannabis is WAY different than opiates so don't try to achieve the same effect

IMO eating cannabis is not good for inexperienced users...if you're not having fun then don't do it...if its not too personal, why do you want to start using cannabis so late in life anyway?

here's a doctor's account of eating too much hash

A Hashish Overdose

from The Natural Mind
by Andrew Weil
p. 50-51

In 1968, when I was studying marihuana in Boston, I deliberately consumed an overdose (6 grams) of potent hashish in order to experience this reaction. I took it orally, under observation, and kept notes as long as I was able. The effects of the drug were felt within forty minutes and were pleasant but strong for about a half-hour. Thereafter, things became quite confusing. I could not understand what was said to me, felt physically sick, and soon was unfit to do anything but lie in bed and wait for morning. Auditory hallucinations were prominent, especially threatening voices that rose in volume to a crescendo, the faded out. For about twelve hours I remained in a stage of consciousness between sleeping and waking, marked by vivid nightmares. Lucid intervals were rare; for much of the time I did not know where I was, even thinking I was six years old and sick from measles. By morning, most of the worst symptoms had disappeared, but I had a powerful hangover that left me prostrate for another twenty-four hours. I would not willingly repeat the experience.
