speaking of that made me think about this exhibit thats been going around. it was exhibited in my town at the mall. a friend of mine that went, said all the bodies are asian. i have been trained to look at art objectively, and am all for science, but wonder about the ethics on this one to be honest. did these people contribute their body ahead of time to the project, how did they find the people to do it? stuff like that

plastinated human body exhibits have been around since 1995 when some
german guy did "body worlds." i think thats the one i saw a few years ago, they
are really really cool if you like educational entertainment.

there has been recent speculation that some of the bodies obtained came from
executed chinese prisoners. the people who run the exhibits claim that all the
bodies were unclaimed and simply given to them by coroners with nothing
better to do with a random corpse. either way i dont see a real ethical dilema.
religious folks might shake a stick at it tho.

i have an ethical problem with it if it is executed chinese prisoners. china has a human rights problem, not sure we should be importing their artistic vision of torture if that's the case.
best wishes,

Took my 9 year old grandson to a Body World exhibition last month. He was completely absorbed and learned a lot, as did I. We've talked several times since about it. Part of the exhibit was a blown up version of the application of one of the people on display who wanted to donate their body. The guy's essay about why he wanted to do it was inspirational.

The plasticizing of the bodies removes any sense of blood and gore and it's similar to looking at the detailed drawings of bodies in an encyclopedia, only much better. Visitors are allowed complete access to most of the exhibits and you can examine them as closely as you want although touching is not allowed. The bodies (including animals such as a camel in the exhibition we saw) are artfully and elegantly posed in a wide variety of situations.

One notable exhibit showed the blood vessel system of a person with everything else removed. I have no idea how it was done, but seeing the intricacy and complexity of how blood is moved around the body was awe inspiring. I highly recommend the exhibition. Don't miss an opportunity to see it.
