Ai yi yi!!! That's a pretty big deal, ol' pal, ol' buddy. Think of the loss of independence, the nagging, the bad hair days...

OK, congratulations, Hoss. I wish you and your betrothed a wonderful life together.

Peace, and best regards,

Sage

"He has too much sense for that, reckon he's getting a horse."

Maybe not but she has a horse, and goats and chickens and two dogs, two cats, two Cockatoos, a Macaw, an African Grey some finches and three other parrots I haven't identified.

Thanks everyone for their kind responses. This may be the nuttiest thing I've ever done.

Beth (her name is Beth, puff), and I have known each other since 6th grade. We also went to HS together. When we were 14 she taught me the meaning of the word, platonic. I nodded my head sagely when she told me we had a platonic relationship. I went home and looked the word up. Damn was I shattered.

Through HS and college we were close "friends" and I was like a "brother" to her. We hung out sporadically for 8 or 10 years but never clicked romantically.

She married a Navy Seal about 25 years ago. The relationship lasted as long as he went on missions. They divorced twelve years ago.

She has a place about 1000 feet above and a mile inside the mouth of a canyon NW of Denver. Beautiful view.

She is blond, has blue eyes and is smarter than I am. Left HS after 11th grade and finished college in 2 years. She is a professional geologist and does environmental reclamation for the Corp of Engineers. She is also a Liberal, although she claims to dislike both democrat candidates to the point where she may vote for McCain.

Oh. And no I've never been married. We're working on my quirks as we speak.

A liberal;-)

I don't know why exactly but I had a feeling she was a liberal.

Congrats Shootist. I hope you two find happiness together.

Cheers, UK

Shootist,

We're very happy that you and Beth have put your platonic relationship behind you and fell in love. Very cool. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. What you see is what you get, and what's to see are two people who get along well and already have a close relationship. Add the magic of love and romance, and it doesn't get much better. You're both probably not easy to live with at times, but your soul connection will carry you through the changes and compromises to come. Beware the first year, but it gets easier :-) I wish you guys the best of everything.

Puff

Congrats shootist, that's quite the story, you might be able to parlay that into a made for tv movie, it's got unrequited highschool love turned full circle into marriage. Here's hoping for a great wedding and a wonderful new life.

BTW if you're calling her a liberal.....I'm sure she's no more left than a slightly right leaning moderate LOL.

peace and happy times
PK

Will you be getting married in Colorado? I'm sure it will be a beautiful wedding!

I bet she won't stay a liberal for long ... or, who knows, maybe you'll be voting for Obama's re-election in 2012!

That's a huge step....but it sounds like you two were meant to be "lifelong" partners because of your history. (I don't know what you meant by her being "Liberal", but hey, whatever floats your boat!) Your similarities will make it easier, but if you're set in your ways, (as it sounds as if you are) then she'll need to train you first to avoid those quirks you speak of. LOL

The five most important things you should know before taking the plunge (and these are non-negotiable) are as follows:

1) She's always right.

2) Put the toilet seat down.

3) You are not King or LORD of the remote control.

4) It costs a lot more to get divorced than it does to get married, so just make sure she's the one.

5) Oh and she's always right...LOL

Good Luck & Congratulations!!!

AG
