Hate to say it, but I agree with PETA on the horse racing deal. I know nothing of
horse racing, but it seems to me horses would not run themselves to death like
Eight Belles did saturday if they weren't being whipped.

i just about wept when i heard the story on this. two broken front ankles. just horrifying what we do to these animals in order to what? ...........make money. i imagine the same horrors exist in dog racing as well.

apparently its a breeding thing. race horses are ONLY bred for speed, whereas
in the past they were bred for speed and durability. horses bred only for speed
will have smaller, less dense bones. on top of that, they are training them
harder and at an earlier age. all that pounding on a young horse bred for
speed's legs and somethings gotta give. at least circus animals get to run amok
and kill some trainers every once in a while. these poor horses are drugged up
and raced to death by the time they are 2.
