A Victoria-area man has been given a two-year sentence after pleading guilty to operating a mail-order marijuana business that sent packets of pot to people in the U.S. and Europe.
Kendell Arthur Berntson of Langford was charged in the summer of 2007 after the RCMP followed up a tip from American authorities who had intercepted more than 300 mailings from the same sender.
Police said the packages contained one-ounce amounts of marijuana or magic mushrooms, and were mailed to customers who'd placed orders on a website operated by Berntson, who used the handle 'bcbud.'
In April 2007, the Mounties raided Berntson's home and seized 332 grams of marijuana and his computer.
He later pleaded guilty to trafficking and exporting pot and was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in custody, with 10 months credit for time served.
