I found these old posts on google but find them relevant. I smoked rather schwaggy stuff for most of my young adult life, about ten years and found I had mild withdrawls when stopping. Mostly unable to get to sleep, though once asleep I was fine, and unable to eat anything dry, only able to eat fruit and salad in very small ammounts. Usually those simptoms went away in 2-4 days of not smoking and all was rather normal. Though I became a little irritable, and while this is perhaps more easily overcome by some personality types, it seems to be common to those quitting smoking. I then moved to hawaii and began smoking very potent stuff for about 3 years. Now, I have stopped smoking and have found myself in extreme distress MOSTLY in the morning for the first few hours of being awake. I toss and turn in my sleep, have cold sweats, have nausea, extreme lack of appetite, have been confused and forgetful, and for the first few days had extreme diarhea. Everything I did manage to eat went right through me undigested. The one symptom that seemed A BIT more controllable was my irratability, perhaps growing older has to do with that. It has been a about a week since quitting and Im just starting to be able to eat small ammounts of regular food again, and with amodium ad I dont have the diarhea anymore. But the insomnia, morning nausea, and general lack of appetite are all symtpoms I have not yet gotten over.
I attribute alot of factors to my nausea as I was born with irrtible bowel syndrome, though had no effects of this through adolecents years, only as a baby. As well as, there was a period I drank alcohol heavily and had been admitted to the hospital for stomach bleeding twice. After quitting drinking I smoked regularly and had physicals and was told I was in excellent health.
This self medicating began as a way of trying to cure anxiety brought on by lifes crazy situations. It later became less about curing anxiety and more about maintaining regular sleep and the ability to eat. I had to smoke to be feel physically normal, regardless of the high that accompanied, though more potent stuff cured the physical ailments faster.
It seems after stopping smoking my anxiety skyrocketed, and a 5 hour plane ride is what triggered massive anxiety, motion sickness, nausea, and diahrea. It seems I have not been able to get over this since. I tried smoking some low grade stuff and got and an extreme headache that lasted 2 days and did absolutley nothing for my recovery. Im not sure what the answer is but there most certainly is a link between marijuana, and these typically reported side effects of quitting. And while it may be more extreme in some personality types than others, it is irresponsible to suggest flat out that there are not side effects, and that it is not addictive or ONLY mentally addictive.
I am interested in hearing more about this topic. And I am wondering if starting again is the answer to get over this or if I have a chance of overcoming these ailments and living a normal life without the stoney bud. Perhaps only a doctor could suggest, but professioanl medical opinions are often swayed and influenced by pharmecutical companies. So prescription drugs are usually the physicians answer. But what is the difference between one dependency or the other?
