hi all i am new to this board but i have been reading for a while and am trying to learn from everyone elses mistakes such as- asking the same stupid questions in the wrong threads or asking ridiculous questions right after you register and everyone is too scared to answer. so my question is, how do i get to the point of "heres a pic of my ladies(hopefully), anyone have any pointers?" because im 3 weeks into it and would like the opinion of someone with experience, but i want to be a "good" memeber and not upset the community. thanks!

Hi Dood,
And yeah as others have said... do not be afraid to ask questions, no matter how dumb they may sound. Those 'dumb' questions could make the difference between a good crop of fat buds and a bunch of hemp! heh
I too am a noob grower but yeah man 2 plants in one pot can/will cause problems later as the plants develop the roots will strangle each other.
Solution: repot them in bigger seperate pots ;)
PEACE,
LGM :]

Cool, cool. The first pic. looks like a leaf miner, or defect in the leaf it's self.

The second pic looks like cloratic spotting starting, in other words the leaf is dying. This could be the result of over ferting or some thing else. If it gets worse flush with 1/4 strength of fert soulution.

And last but not least 2 plants + 1 container = Bad juju.

They will end up killing eachother, or if your really lucky one will be severly stunted, and one will be slightly stunted...... either way ....Nothing good will come of this setup.

ok i will just hack one of the two down to make room... one looks way healthier anyway. about the yellow.. i havent used and fert yet but im getting ready so what else do you think? i am in soil, 48" x 2 cfl for light and i try not to water too much. i water when the soil is pretty dry an inch or 2 down. is that right?

I aint sure about the spotting in the second pic but maybe it could be an enviromental issue i.e. do you have the plant near a radiator, vent or anything like that?
Also you said you were going to hack one of the 2 in 1 pot down??? why not repot it giving you more chances of raising female plants? How many seedlings do you have? what strain are they? what type of soil are they potted in?

PEACE,
LGM :]

they are in a closet, which i keep between 75-80f. i dont really have room for a 4th pot.is there anyproblem with cutting one down ? will the roots rot and harm the other plant? i started with 3 bags seeds from some good mids in each pot and after about 10-14 days plucked the unhealthy ones, leaving 2 in the first pot and 1 in each of the other 2. i also have a 250 hps that i was going to switch to at about 18" is a leaf miner something to worry about?

Cool i`m growing 3 plants in a closet too; Citralah, nice hash plants! They aint much older than yours either at around the 5 week mark now, also in soil and from seed.
One of mine had leaf minors too but it just seemed to stop itself :]
I do not know if leaving the plants roots in will have a negative effect on the other, i would assume not, however some confirmation from someone else would be good??????
I still dont get what you mean you started with, sorry i`m British heh whats good mids dood?

happy growing,

see!this shows how close minded americans are!!! anyway, i dont know how to describe it. we call mids anything that isnt total crap but also isnt dank so kinda in between.what would you call that across the pond? i said good mids because it was higher end in my opinion but not anything that deserves hydroponics. does that help? thanks for the input!

Hey Topshelf,
Yeah that clears things up for me, i understand where you are coming from now, lol.
Over here they seem to be pretty nieve like we have... Bud (most types of bud) Brick weed (compressed weed seeded) Pollen (solid) Rocky (moroccan hash) Black (sticky black hash usually Pakistani origin) Home grown (as it says) Skunk( covering any smelly variety! lol) Green (covering all varieties!) so it is kind of like its either OK or NOT BAD or SHIT lol or now and again AWESOME! lol. so i know what ya mean now man, heh.
Anyways heres the link to my thread and the3 progress of my grow so far..... http://boards.marihemp.com/boards/thd8x83182.shtml
more pics will be updated after Xmas but i have high hopes that i will get at least one female from the 3 plants and a nice crop of buds for my efforts :)
You will see if you look at the thread that i am growing in soil, well i bought bio-bizz 'all mix' soil which is a good medium and i have now on week five just started them on a quarter strength nutrients to get them used to it i will give them half strength when i get back for like 3 feeds then i will be giving them full strength nutes by week six and (fingers crossed) they should be thriving and getting ready to pre-flower!
Have you got any nutrients for yours yet topshelf? if you have ; remember to intriduce them slowly , like quart strength first etc working up to full dose so as not to shock them?
i also asked what kind of soil you were growing in as different kinds of soil have different nutrient qualities. This is why i did not start mine on seperate nutes until i hit the 5 week mark.
How is the yellow spotting doing now dood? any progress? and what about the leaf minors, they stopped yet?
I asume you are hand feeding them? and the reason i asked what type of seed they were is because if you did not purchase feminised seeds (like me) then you do not know what sex your plants will be! As you prolly know we only are interested in female plants to produce nice buds for smoking eh? Unless you wanted to fertilise some and produce seed? But like i said why dont you pot the other in another pot and see what becomes of them but if you aint got the space then .....well, you have 3 plants and hopefully (like me) will will produce at least one female!!!!! lol.
Anyhow i gotta go get some food now, mmmmmnnnnn munchies! heh.

Happy Growing,
PEACE,
LGM :]

Hey dood, yeah could have done with a better pic, or at least one that didnt half break my neck trynna view it!!! lol.
But seriously man your plant looks pretty healthy to me, it is looking kinda like the biggest one of mine except the leaves seem to be a lot larger on mine (prolly strain difference). Anyways i would not worry about that bottom pre leaves too much i think at this stage of the plants life (post seedling) it no longer needs it : ) and mine are the same ; ) Also i too topped one of mine and supercropped another! heh. I also added new pics in my thread, did ya get a look at my plants yet man? what ya think? Also where are your others? and i read that if you do leave roots of other plants in pots they are an invitation to bugs etc so it is not recommended.
Post some more pics man : )

PEACE,
LGM.

Hey Topshelf,
Congrats on (at least) 2 females! wewt!
And i reckon that since you are using a 250 HID then you will get a good yield :)
The 400w HPS that i am using in my closet is overkill for that size of space man. Granted my female loves the intense lumens but it is too hot in there and a lot of energy will be getting wasted. Also it is not cost effective to run a 400w HID for one plant (unless you are gonna grow it into a 7 foot by 3 foot bush or suchlike). So i am going to down grade to a cfl envirolite (like i used for vegging) but in the red colour spectrum 2700k. Dont know if i should go for a 125 or a 200 though, the 200w is double the price of the 125???
Also i dunno about your lower leaves going yellow, it may be just natural at this stage as the plant is now changing into pre-flowering and therefore using its energy to develop calyx` it is natural that a lot of lower leaves turn yellow during flowering. But i dont know if you have been giving them nutes and if you have to what strength and how often?
I had a problem a couple of weeks back where i overfeed mine and had bad yellowing working from bottom upwards on the plant and i had to flush her through.
I need to post some more pics too and i might do that later.
Anyways Topshelf good going man,
Peace,
LGM.

good news, it looks like 3 ladies. so 3 for 3 cant beat that deal with a stick. i have been very easy on the nutes but i use b'cuzz growth and flower at the lowest end of the recommended dosage. the leaves dont looked burnt, they just get yellow and crispy. ive noticed that if i remove 1, another strts to yellow almost immediatly but if i dont touch, the yellowing seems to stay in those leaves. as far as yield, these babies were bag-seed and it looks like i have 2 sativa and an indica...i think? and i heard sativas indoors suck for quantity. but u can see by the pictures, 1 is short and bushy which could be because its the only one ive pruned or it really is an indica

HHHHmmmmmnnnnn, I dont think they will be a mixture of both sativa and indica strains unless you collected them from different batches of weed, or did you get them all from one bag dood?
good going on the nutes man.

lol. the seeds were in the form of about 200 "good" seeds that my friend had saved up out of personal bags over about a six month period so i couldve ended up with ANYTHING.i picked about 20 of the best and sprouted then used whatever germinated.i live in the US so ive basically come to the reality that i cant order any seeds and bag seeds are my only option. more pics coming tomorrow...

good looking grow topshelf!! from what i've been reading, they want alot of K when they flower. I'm you sure you could over do it tho, as the same with any nute. I'm using miracle grow bloom booster for mine and it seems to be working well. again, nice grow man :)

Well Topshelp iono but that ratio 0-0-0.7 sounds fucked up to me! excuse my french? Unless you are still using the same product nutes to bloom with then this one could just be a topup to compliment the bloom nutrient? are you using the same product bloom nutrient?
As Bondo says, marijuana thrives well in bloom with a high K(Pottasium) ratio, although blooming with double the amount of K (Phosphorous) is preferable.
N (Nitrogen can remain low i.e. 2%) as the plant does not need N for flower production.
E.G. Bio Bizz Grow = 2.0-6.0-3.5 and i am giving my CitralAh a treat of PK 13/14 for last 2 weeks ( this ups N-0.P-13.P-14) the effect of this should stimulate the bloom process and allow the plant to produce larger calyx and more sugars :) yum! lol

so what ya treating dem with man?

I water my flowering plant with miracle grow bloom boost solution every time it needs watered. so far i don't see any evidence of nute burn. also, i have them in miracle grow soil which contains ferts as well. all of my plants are closing in on 4 feet tall and seem to be very healthy. so im really not seeing any negative effect to watering with nute solution every couple days.

Looking good Topshelf,
so if my calculations are correct these plants should now be end of week 7, start of week 8?
However if i remember correctly you got these beans from bag weed, so you aint sure of the strain???
In that case you could possibly be flowering for another 3 weeks or best case scenario they maybe ripe for harvest anytime now?
Keep an eye on your pistils you want most of them 75% to be red/brown, but if you have a microscope take a look at those nice looking THC glands/Crystals through it, if the glands are clear then it is immature, if the glands are milky its half matured, if they are amber then they are mature; again you want to see around 75% of the Trichomes amber for optimal results.
As for the nutes, soz you aint had much help with that man, but it looks like you have done a good job.
You can mix different nutes, however a company will have the best tried and tested nutes to compliment each other and these should also include a bloom stimulator with higher P and K ratios as we have said. If i were you i would have added a lil something extra like P.K. 13/14 or Top Max just to push thier capabilities of sugar production that lil further, if you had done that you may have had a fatter more Crystal covered crop. That said if the P.K. 13/14 or simalr was too much then your plants would have let you know by burning slightly at the tips of the leaves, at which point you could have stopped adding the solution.
Anyways thats my two cents worth topshelf but i am a noob grower too and therefore i am still learning. I will prolly be harvesting mine 2mrw or the day after.
The 2 biggest things i have learned from my grow are;
Do not be afraid of your plants, you can be firm with them and they can be trained, topped stressed etc and can still produce a nice crop.
The other thing i have learned is to go VERY easy on the feeding and learn from your plants appearance.
So i hope to see some nice pics of your harvest soon topshelf.
REMEMBER only feed/flush with pure3 water for at least last week to get excess nutes and stimulators out, therefore enhancing the quality/flavour/taste of the smoke.

PEACE :)
LGM.

The biggest cola i have is sick as hell. take a look at the pics...ive only been giving water only for the past few days and will continue to do so until the end because ive heard when in doubt, flush. it cant be fert burn because the other 2 dont have it and they all got the same treatment. will she make it to harvest? should i cut those crispy leaves off?

have you been checking the PH of the water you've been giving them, those pics appear to be like some major pH fluxuations

from what i researched, a digital ph meter was too expensive for my budget and i heard that paper tests arent accurate enough. i give them tap water that usually sits for 8-12 hours before i give it. i have stopped giving nutes and just use cold water to water them. will this fix my problem or at least stop it from getting worse? thanks for the quick response!
ps- would this ph problem just all of a sudden pop up like this? ive tried very hard to not fluctuate or change anything im doing throughout the grow so that a problem like this could be traced easier. i figured a ph problem wouldve started earlier. and should i cut those bad leaves off? thanks again

http://www.ganjagurus.com/overgrowfaq/951.htm

check that link out, to me it does appear to be pH, definetly test your water somehow man, even with a paper strip, its what i use. Anyway my suggestion is to just continue with 1/4th of your regular ferting is unless you are close enough to harvest to be flushing. And for the future, i recommend getting this product called "floraclean" i believe. It's good to flush your roots out completely, and the soil too. This stuff totally eliminates any trace fertilizers that may be laying behind. Good to do when your changing from grow ferts to bloom. And it works great for fast flushing of your harvest, i flushed with this stuff for 4 days in my hydro cubes and i had no fert taste in any of my bud.

i wish you best of luck man, keep close eye on those others

looks to me like the plant wants to be mature but the buds just arent ready. By the way very nice looking buds, but yea just keep flushing is your safest bet, personally i think it'd fuck up the plant to go back to fertz again but maybe sanclem or george would say otherwise.

how bout this... are my pots too small for plant size? i can brush about a half of an inch of soil off the top and under that it is this inpenetrable, thick, spongy ball of roots. whats the rule of thumb on pot size? the pots are about 10-12" tall and the ladies are 24-36"

Hey Topshelf, dont panic man, you have done a great job and the buds are looking nice and i would say near to harvest now.
Dont go pulling/cutting all the bad leaves off dood; during bloom especially the last few weeks more and more leaf will die off as your ladies invest thier energy in creating buds and THC. During bloom and nearing harvest i would check daily and give the yellowing leaves a lil tug, if they do not fall away in your fingers then they aint ready to come off yet, let them go more yellow, they will loose near all thier colour sometimes and then they just come away in your hands with a very small tug :)
Also my CitralAH has just finished (10 weeks one day flowering), i only gave water for the last couple of weeks then as she became near ripe i starved her of water for a week (that lil stress should create more THC but possibly slightly lessen quantity) seemed to work well for me. At that stage she also had a lot of crisping small leaves on her kolaz, so do not panic man, all will be well i say!!!
Oh and i dont think it is the size of your pots??
I am no expert for sure but hey i done mine in 6½ litre pots and Damn that size of pot can easily hold a 7ft monster Bitch! lol
I have potted my clones into just 4½ litre pots this time, they should be good for short squat plants :)
Anyways, well done again dood,
you will be smoking nicely soon! Yum Yum
PEACE,
LGM.

well, since you asked, not very good. the leaf problem has possibly subsided with flushing, but its more likely that i just dont have anymore leaves left to die. also- i grew 3 from seed and all 3 were female as you can see. about 7-10 days ago, the plant i circled in red is FULL of seeds. i cant figure it out. and 3rd, im in my 11th week of 12/12 and none of my trichs are amber. any advice?

they're not all that bad and i wouldn't be trying anything heroic to fix it at this late stage or you may cause more probs...and leaves will naturally yellow and fall off during the last couple weeks when they're getting less and less water and no more ferts or additives. if they were mine i'd leave em be and finish off with ph addjusted water only and not a lot of that either.

perhaps a female was misidentified or was a herm to begin with but no worries now. just finish it off as clean as possible and do better next time!

ok...what % of the trichs should be amber? and isnt 12-13weeks of 12/12 way too long for this to take?

i heard if you harvest before the thc breaks down all the way ( to the amber color) and you leave some white ones with mostly light orange color its a diffrent high. more of a "head high". and if you let them mature to the dark amber color its more of a "couch lock high". my first time growing start to finish i choped em the lighter color and it was the best high ive ever had. but that may be a "biest" opinion since they were my babys. anyone agree. again thats what ive heard and exprienced. id prefer the head high. i would try cutting some buds off earlier than the rest just to try it out. let us know. congradulations on the grow

should they all be amber? or just a few? the pictures people show me show fields of amber trichomes. it seems like i will need a few more weeks to get even 10% of them to turn and those weeks will put me almost 15weeks into flowering. isnt that way too long?

As someone already said Topshelf, dont panic man you have done a good first job and you are near the end, remember these were bag weed and some sativas are not uncommon to flower for longer periods....thats why the commercial grower will prolly choose a strain which will flower quickly, 7-9 wks prolly. Thats the benefit of choosing yer beans man, you know exactly what ya got then, but hey i`m in the same boat i got some African Bush (seeds from good bag weed) on the go too and iono how long they will take to flower?1? lol
Yeah, shame about that hermy dood but look on the bright side, you will also have a bunch of seed to plant out this summer :)

Oh and one thing Topshelf, are you confusing Trichomes with Pistils? soz if thats a dumb question man?

(the shape of that hermy top looks like an Amythist Bud????)

Peace,
LGM.

not sure what an amythist bud is.. maybe you can enlighten me. and second, i dont think so... pistils are the hairs, right? start white turn reddish with ripening 2 per flower etc... trichs are the "crystals" on the surface of the bud and they look like some magic mushrooms under my 30x. ive been told trichome color is the only true maturity indicator but ive also heard that when your pistils are 75-90% youre ready and after that the pistils start to shrivel and die and your plant is moving out of the harvest window. i have small buds where 100% of the pistils on them are very red and basically fall off if you brush against them and they have been 100% red for about 2/3 weeks but the trichs are still clear/milky. as everyone else said, im probably just panicking. hope that made sense

many growers harvest when the glands have turned all milky white while others wait a little longer for 10-15% of them to turn amber-red and get a more narcotic, sleepy kind of high...it's a personal preference issue. you can harvest the plant at different times too, taking a branch now while leaving the rest to continue ripening. 12-14 weeks is rather long but right in there if it's a sativa which apparently is what you've got. i have a blockhead and a potent purple approaching their 10th week in flower and both appear to needing another month or so to finish! anyway, if i were you i'd take one of the nicer buds (not the best one but not the worst either) and dry it for a taste test to see where it's at. but don't go nuking it in the microwave or baking in the oven...just a simple air-dry over a couple days should be enough to give you an idea of what to do next, and it's not like you're in any rush...eh? if so you picked the wrong hobby...lol but for a quicker and natural dry hang a small bud in the middle of a paper sack then hang the sack in a closet or similar...48 hours later it should be smokable in a bowl.

good luck...almost there so not the time to cut corners now!

i aggree with Del 100% man and especially if you have a higher percentage sativa which has already been established you could start to harvest your lower branches (they will prolly be the ones were the pistils are fully ripe? and fall of when touched?) This is an indication that nature has taken its place within the plants life and now the pistils which are covered (also) in Trichomes are mature. It can be a pain in the ass harvesting branches at a time but i had 2 seperate tester branches (dried quickly in paper envolope) as testers at both 8½ and 9½ weeks when Trichomes where clear to milky and milky respectively then i waited until it showed 10-20% amber Trichomes and the pistils were prolly 75-80 rusty (mature)!!
Sounds like smoke time dood and yeah soz for asking the Trich/Pistil question, you clearly know the difference.
Nice grow man, looks sweet.
Oh and an Amythest bud is a variety thats flowers grow in the shape you would see in like an Amythist ring.
Prolly aint but the bud structure is similar....but after looking again today i think it looks like a New York Diesel!! lmao, iono. heh.

Well done dood,
keep it clean, keep it green,
Peace,
LGM.

Well the high, or low has to do with CBDN wich happens when THC is exposed to light, heat, air. So the older the plant the higher CBDN ratio the more Knock-out stone you get, the less the more up in the head high you get.

Combine that knowlegde you have and you should be able to know when to harvest ... and GL.

Also, get a color soulution PH tester/ not strips cost, about 9$US and test the water before you use it. Most Hydoponics nutes will lower you PH a bit, some Alot .... over time it can cause a prob.
