Hey,some advice please. My leaves are looking funky. Start yellow at tips, then brown & crispy like burn and spots that look like burn(I think)and also a hole in a leaf and an end that looks like chewed through. I'm going to try flushing. We have hard water(tap) and reverse osmosis water. I haven't got a PH tester yet but, right now which water would you use? Or should I wait to flush til I test PH.
Help much appreciated, thanks.
p.s.-wish I could post picture but always tells me message too large(can't figure out how to fix)

Hey NTL,

I bet that you have acidic soil. My leaves started doing the same thing when it was getting outside sprinkler H20 early in its growth. Then I switched to bottled water inside. I thought it was getting mag/cal def. so I switched back to tap water(HARD). big mistake.

the fan leaves start to look burnt up. it almost looks like nutrient burn. and theoretically, it actually is due to the lock. I suggest getting some pH up and a cheap dropper/acid base tester. Give it water with a pH of 8 daily until you see improvement. Then start feeding it again.

Peace.

Hey, thanks for the advice/info. I got a ph tester and it read 7,which I understand is a good #. It's the kind with the rod that you stick in the soil with a meter. I hope that's accurate. I guess I need to get one to test the water. I did flush with the reverse osmosis water and I don't see any further browning or yellowing since but, they are growing too slow! I don't want to give it any water yet because it's really wet. I'm afraid of root rot. Is there something I can give without water? I saw something called Ironite at the garden shop. It has a lot of different nutrients in it.I'm not sure if you mix w/water or just put in soil(I should have read directions). Are you familiar with it? Thanks so much

What soil mixture are u using ? are u adding perlite to it to help with air to the roots and drainage ? If u are getting a p.h. reading of 7,P.H. may not be your problem, but overferting.Flush your plants a.s.a.p. and start over slowly.if you use a good soil mixture, you should never have root rot problems.Flush them out with plain old tap water if you have to,but flush them.Peace.

p.s. add a little hydrogen peroxide to get air to the roots.

BLAZE

Thanks Blaze. It's a topsoil(store bought),it has perlite. I also added sand & kitty litter. I think you're right about the overferting. I did flush night before last and did add hydrogen peroxide as well! (glad I did something right)
I was worried about root rot because it's a big pot and will take a long while to dry out. I know mj doesn't like soggy soil right?
Thanks Blaze & George for your help.

Here is my take on it..... for every 1 gallon of H2O use 1 pump of Oxygen+ (garden section) for next 3 waters. What kind of cat litter? Clay litter will combine with the sand and and creat a resevior at bottom of pot if watered too much. Put a circulation fan and airate at the base if that is where the sand and litter are at.

I use a straight potting soil, and add 1" (washed /recycled) river stones to bottom of pot (big pots 2 gal+ size) that covers bottom 2-3". I currently use 3 liter soda/pop bottles with lots of holes to breath, and fill with straight potting soil. Using a simple $5 fountain pump & timer, use a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet tank float valve to control water depth, I water every 4 days (i'm @ 5K elevation with <25% humidity). my runoff runs into a basin and is extracted by a simple $5 fountain pump on a timer and 5 gallon buckets. I empty about evry 20 days.

Thanks Crave. It's special kitty litter(i think),have to check if it's clay. I got that tip from reading Rosenthal, maybe that wasn't good advice. I do have the pot raised up and a fan going so air can circulate underneath. I mixed the sand and the litter with the soil. Are you saying they will sink to bottom to create reservior? Next time I will do way different. I'll put stones on bottom and use way more perlite. NO litter! Thanks for your help.

watch out, too much perlite can cause soil molds as it retains water. about 1/2 cup per gallon of medium or less depending on the soil type which most contain perlite <1% anyhow. I use organic, makes my smoke taste clean....no chemicals

to help dry the soil out, just move around the top 1/4 inch of soilever day, this also takes stress off the plant roots....also check the amont of water your using ,this is were alot of people go wrong...keep track by ounces, and reduce until plant strats using up water fast and starting to grow again. peace brice/
