Hi-

I have a 400 watt digital high pressure sodium setup I purchased from www.hidhut.com . I love it, it's sensational, but it's nearly time to go back to veg...

Question: Can I run a 250 watt Metal Halide bulb on that ballast AND ONLY DRAW 250 Watts? (-30% for digital ballast of course)...

Anyone want to chime in? San Clem...? GJW??

Thanks ;)

Metal halide and high pressure sodium bulbs and ballasts cant be mixed or matched without risk of buring, frying, or exploding something.

Why not use the hps for the reveg? Theres always going to be the debate about whether mh or hps is best, but they both work very well for either the veg or bloom cycle.

Nevermind.

I purchased a T5 Fixture that has 2 55 watt T5 bulbs claiming 10,000 lumens combined.

I was thinking of running my 400 watt digital setup with a metal halide bulb for about 8 hours, then run the flouro setup for 10-12 hours. I want to do this because at Halloween I am going to veg again with new babies.

What do you think?

I wonder how much then I would be drawing and if my total electric would still be over $100??

It's only because electricity is an issue when I run my 400 watt 18+ hours.

Wish electricity wasn't so expensive in Cali.

$100 a month in cali aint that bad at all! I've seen lots of posts in different sites where over a thousand a month is pretty normal, and thats not huge grows either.

A friend bought three 4ft long shoplites some yrs ago and mounted them all side by side making a bank of about 2ft wide x 4 ft long. He uses that for cloning, veg, reveg, seedlings. They dont use much elec, dont get hot, and provide 250w which works fine.

I knew a guy once who used the T-5's in both veg and bloom and it was very good smoke. You dont hear much about them tho, and they have been around for several yrs. I suspect its because they fill a gap in the horticultural "lighting" world that is kinda midway between the higher powered HID lites, and the lower powered {and cheaper} floro lites. Grow on

Well it's just me a very small home (about 700 sq ft) and I was running about $125 a month when I was running my old school crappy ballast 400 watt setup for 18 hours a day.

That just seemed like a big increase since I was only using like $30 a month in electric before growing.

I'll keep growing on, that's for sure!

Does anyone know the electrical breakdown of 18 hours of 400 watt system use (digital so -30% right?) ?

Before I was running an old school ballast that was a lot less inefficent and it wasn't digital.

Now I have a digital 400 but I'm scared to run it 18 hours on..

I have a really inefficent AC unit on my house and the bill was high this month so don't worry too much as long as you don't go over 800 watts.
