I have just added a 150 watt hps light to my Veg closet/room. I had 2 shop light fixtures 4' running a total of 4 - 3000 lumens commercial daylight bulb mix.

I removed 1 fixture unit, and will use 1 during the first week of clone transplant, then use BOTH 150 hps & CFL.

I could afford to run the shoplights 24/7, but adding the 150 hps (have another 150 hps in separate flwr room) will push my electric bill past the point of someone flagging me for using "WAY TOO MUCH" power. Or just slamming it with a few good spikes.

question:

can I run my CFL shoplite 24/7 in veg, then have the 150 watt hps run for 16-18 hrs during that period, or split up the times to run around clock intermittantly?

timing of = 2 hr on, 1 hr off, 2 hr on, 1 hr off and so on?

Or just use my cfl during the first week of clone transplant, and keep it off.....then just use the HPS unit? I am just wanting to add a diff. light spectrum to room for experiment. The HPS is directly below & centered on the shoplight. sits about 12" above growth (testing temp lvls). I post pics when I can.

I harvested 1 plant this morning (3 days early) I need to re-veg. i accidentally use water for flwr room that had strong nutrient solution on clones, burned/shocked the bloody piss out of them...all leaves have dried and are dead...they are starting to show new growth now......scared crap of me....would of had to goto seed again........ not waiting to do that for a while...

hey man you dont need an hps on if you got clones in veg ...if there young as in under 8/10 inches....the cfls are fine after 8/10 inches you can use both if you want or just the cfls .... dont have the hps on in segments ..thats the kind of fucked up environment stuff that makes hermies! keep the lights constant ...even if there under powered ... better slightly stretched than hermies!

if your desperate to tighten up the nodes and speed up veg time get a 150watt MH instead .run it on 18/6 and scrap the cfls....... but i say this without knowing the size of the growing space !

Yes, I agree. I have decided to keep both CFL and HPS. My HPS cover 1/2 the chamber directly, and the CFL covers the other half.

Since I f^^ked my clones up by over-fert, I am trying to give as much light as possible as not screw my rotation cycles up too much. they are showing more green now. I am running both the cfl and hps @ 19/3. (my harvest is this week, able to drop flwr rooom light down 30 extra mins off).

I wish I could get a decent MH light, but all the light I have now were ultra cheap, so I am hoping to get a convertable 250 watt for super cheap, I am on a VA pension and I do not sell my wares.

I am very HAPPY as my yields for my new harvest are looking 2x better than my last batch!

VEG ROOM - 28"(H)X 17"(W)X 48" (L) (HEIGHT CAN BE EXPANDED TO 44" IF NEED TO CONVERT TO FLWR ROOM)CAN FIT 4 - 5 GALLON BUCKETS SIDE BY SIDE AND 3 HIGH.

Wow, you're making this way more complicated than it needs to be.

First of all, you shouldn't worry about your power consumption. You might be using a total of 500 watts at any given time. Say your electric company is charging you $.12/kWh. At that rate you're only paying about $1.40 per day to run all of your lights. That's nothing. If you're truly worried, buy a Kill-A-Watt meter and find out exactly how much "juice" you're drawing from your lights and other household products. I think you'd be surprised how much you're using.

Also, you should drop a couple coins on some high output "grow" fluorescents. A nice 6-bulb T5 system would run you a couple hundred dollars, but it's a much better light (lumens to watts ratio and spectrum). CFL bulbs that you buy at Home Depot are worthless. Just my two cents.
