61 is just border line, below 60 and you get problems and slower growth .... tel him to firstly get his outtake fan sorted coz thats priority than get a cheap oil filled heater and set it on a thermostat (some have it built in) on about 65/70 dF then it will never be too cold : ) . but the fan atm is more important !!!!

Ok, so after i talked to my buddy i told him to start his intake and exhaust fans. he said he was unsure when to them as he was told to wait till almost 2 weeks in to start exhaust. something about keeping humidity high until flowering. is this true? or fans should be running always from day one? thats a question i could use an answer to. Also he is growing in a 5x5x7 room. he has a 80cfm fan on a charcoal filter for exhaust knowing that for effective odor control the air in the room needs to be exchanged every 5 mins . so 5x5x7 = 175 / 5 = 35.. so to clear the air in that room i need at least 35cfm fan. 80cfm should do it? even with the duct work and shit? I know i am asking a lot of questions. but any help is greatly appreciated.

air flow is far far more important than humidity ,,, humid conditions are good for veg growth but not nessissary , but if you shut off the airflow they will starve from lack of co2 !
The air in any given grow room has to be changed every 2-3 minutes not 5 !

and the calculation goes like this (you almost got it right)
and its in meters not feet!

1 foot = 0.3048 meters

length x width x height = A ........ A x 20 changes per hour = the fans air flo m3/hour : )

yours
5 x 0.3048 = 1.524
7 x 0.3048 = 2.134

1.524 x 1.524 x 2.134 = 3.252 x 20 = 65 m cubed/hour

so his 80cmf will be fine ...for now , tell him to save up for a 4" grow fan (175cmf) better for when you got bigger lights in flowering with more heat !.. i wouldnt trust anything less than a 4" grow fan, my rooms in feet ..
3ft x 8ft x 8ft and i got a 6" (450m3/hour)when only a 80cmf would do ... but if i ran an 80 it wouldnt be able to expell the hot air from the lights !thing is with a bigger fan is you can link it in to a fan speed controller (a dimmer switch lol) and slow it down to half speed then its quiet and still shiffting massive ammount of air and sucking in more co2 : )

if hes in veg he shouldnt need a carbon filter yet .. its a waste lol.

hope this helps

First thanks for the help!!!! :) next, so i can disconnect the carbon filter for now right? keep the 80cfm running for veg, i can afford to switch to a high output 4in growfan for flower. Will either fan(combined with the filter of course) provide effective odor control? or do i need the high output grow fan?

depends on the filter most basic carbon filters need a minimum of 160m3/hour suction to work , how it was working with the 80 i do not know

use the cf with a 4" gf
