hi, i want to start a small grow operation in my closet and maybe eventually step it up a notch... i have been doing some research and am looking into an earthbox like system. the purpose of this post is two fold: one, to request additional info on the parts i am not sure of, and two, to share the information that i have compiled.

let me share what i do know first: i heard about a grow system called an earthbox which could supposedly double the yield of plants grown in it, so i checked out if there was any info on growing herb in one, and all the sources i found seemed very positive. an earth box consists of a large water reservoir under an aerated planter box with soil from the box acting as a wick for water. the planter box is covered with dark plastic to keep humidity in the system. air above the reservoir is supposedly of high humidity, and it permeates through the aerated planter and soil, collects on the plastic lid, and drips back through into the reservoir carrying nutrients from the fertilizers placed on top down through the roots. i read a post where a guy said he harvested 17 oz from one plant in one of these systems

so i want to start a high yield clone in this box, and make sure it gets all the nutrition it needs, and there are a few things i am confused on, first of all, the earthbox is supposed to be like some kind of ron popile gadget 'set it and forget it' where slow release fertalizer is worked through the system by the evaporation process i described in the last paragraph. i know that the growers i have read notes from so far are disdainful of slow release fertilizers because you have less control, so what do i do with this system to bring it up to snuff? (should i just ad nutrients to the reservoir?) if you go to the earthbox website you will see that when one plants an earthbox the fertilizer is set away from the plant in question, supposedly keeping all salt build up away from the plant as well. if this is the case would i still want to flush it before the end of the flowering cycle?

also, the guy with 17 oz from said he only put in one plant, but he was using the official earthbox which is small, and my home made one will potentially have 14 gallons of soil. with so much room, could i get away with putting 2 or 3 in there?

and i am sure lights are discussed on another thread, can somebody point me to one of them? or just tell me what is the least i can get away with spending?

as its still classed as a "soil" set up its soil ferts that you use ...i have tryed lots of ferts from advances nutes too fox farms but by far the best is "canna terra vega and flores" for soil growing then add some canna PK 13/14 in the 5th week of flowering as a superbloom additive (makes your buds heavier, bigger and produce more resin)
link for your ferts :

hope this helps
